What to use when Burwood’s free spaces fill
Burwood Council operates George Street car park, Wynne Ave car park, Elizabeth Street car park, Parnell Street car park and Meryla Street car park as public Pay by Plate facilities (burwood.nsw.gov.au). These named council car parks are practical fallback locations when unrestricted on-street spaces around the town centres have gone, but they are paid facilities during the council’s charging hours.
Burwood Council charges $4.90 an hour from 9am to 7pm and $3 an hour from 7pm to 10pm at those public car parks, with a maximum fee of $30 per day (burwood.nsw.gov.au). George Street car park and Wynne Ave car park each have a 2.1m height clearance, making the clearance especially relevant for vans and tall four-wheel drives. Tickets are required at the council car parks from 9am to 10pm Monday to Sunday and on public holidays.
Burwood permit streets and the limits on free stays
Burwood Council’s Permit Parking Scheme places time limits in some residential streets to manage demand near town centres and public transport (burwood.nsw.gov.au). A residential street inside a PPS zone is not a general all-day free option when a vehicle has no valid permit, because the vehicle must comply with the signposted time limit.
Burwood residents who live in the relevant streets and their visitors can be exempt from those limits when an approved or granted permit is associated with the vehicle (burwood.nsw.gov.au). Burwood Council’s Community Safety Officers and Parking Officers patrol PPS zones, and Burwood Council issues infringement notices to vehicles that exceed the signposted limit without a valid permit.
