Parking Near Timaru
Free two-hour parking at The Terrace and Timaru’s pay spaces
Timaru District Council says parking is free at any parking space governed by an individual parking meter, and in the Pay and Display car parks at the Library. The free period belongs to those council-controlled spaces, so the relevant meter or display arrangement still governs how long a vehicle may remain (timaru.govt.nz).

Parksy spaces near Timaru CBD on The Bay Hill and The Terrace
Parksy lists a priced 24/7 parking space in Timaru Central on The Bay Hill, 180 metres away, at $2 an hour. The space suits drivers who want nearby access without relying on a free bay becoming available.
Parksy also lists a priced space at 10 The Terrace, 190 metres away, at $1 an hour with 24/7 access. The The Terrace option suits longer CBD visits when the free two-hour parking at the nearby The Terrace car park has reached its limit, while the lower hourly price makes it the cheaper of these two priced Parksy choices.
Timaru time limits and parking restrictions still apply in free spaces
Timaru District Council’s free parking statement applies to spaces governed by individual parking meters and to the Library Pay and Display car parks, rather than creating unrestricted parking across every CBD street. A free stay therefore remains subject to the time shown for the particular bay or car park (timaru.govt.nz).
The Terrace car park has a free two-hour limit, so a vehicle left beyond two hours is no longer using that free allowance.
Mobility parks at The Terrace are intended for mobility parking users: Canterbury Maps Open Data identifies one mobility park at the car park, so the space is not a general free bay for every driver. (Canterbury Maps Open Data)
Timaru parking fines, enforcement and appeals
Timaru District Council parking officers monitor restrictions in the district, and the council has issued reminder notices before enforcement activity.
Drivers who receive a Timaru parking fine can submit an explanation of their circumstances to the Timaru District Council Parking Unit, which considers the explanation and advises the driver of its decision. The council provides an appeal process for a parking fine rather than requiring drivers to rely on an informal complaint (timaru.govt.nz).
