Parking Near Miramar
Free street parking around Miramar South
Miramar South has 24-hour restricted parking on streets within the council’s designated zone, so an apparently free kerbside space is not an unrestricted long-stay option. Wellington City Council identifies Miramar South as a resident parking area where the restriction applies for 24 hours (wellington.govt.nz). The restriction is particularly relevant near Wellington Airport, where vehicles may otherwise occupy residential streets for extended periods.
A space outside the marked zone may still be free if its street signs impose no charge or time limit, while a space inside the zone is governed by the Miramar South restriction. Free parking therefore depends on the individual street and its signs rather than on Miramar as a whole.
Parksy parking near Miramar when street spaces are full
Parksy lists a secure 24/7 parking lot in Miramar, 550 metres away, at $24 a day. The location suits drivers who need a guaranteed off-street space close to Miramar and cannot rely on finding a legal free bay. Its round-the-clock access is useful for airport-related trips, early starts and late returns.
Parksy also lists secure garage spaces in Wellington, 1.4 kilometres from Miramar, priced at $4 an hour, $6 an hour, $55 a day and $70 a day. The hourly spaces suit short visits, while the daily options suit longer stays when a full day of parking is needed. A further secure 24/7 garage space in Wellington is 1.5 kilometres away and costs $69 a day. These priced spaces are alternatives for drivers who value certainty when nearby free parking has been taken.
Miramar South’s 24-hour restriction and resident permits
A vehicle left beyond the permitted period can be liable for enforcement, so a free-looking space in the zone is not suitable for airport parking, multi-day stays or other extended parking.
Residents within the Miramar South zone can apply for one exemption permit per household at no cost, according to Wellington City Council (wellington.govt.nz). The permit arrangement is tied to the resident parking area and does not turn the zone into general free parking for visitors.
Airport demand makes Miramar’s free spaces scarce
Wellington Airport demand has affected parking in Miramar, with airport users previously leaving vehicles outside residents’ homes for extended periods without paying (stuff.co.nz). That pattern makes residential kerbside spaces especially difficult to rely on for a longer airport trip.
For a priced alternative close to Miramar, Parksy lists the secure 24/7 Miramar parking lot 550 metres away for $24 a day. Drivers needing a shorter stay can use the Wellington garage listing 1.4 kilometres away at $4 an hour, while the $6 an hour garage at the same distance provides another hourly option. The $55 and $70 daily garage listings at 1.4 kilometres suit longer stays when the nearby free spaces have gone.
Miramar parking infringement amounts and payment options
Wellington City Council states that failing to pay for parking in a metered space can result in a $70 parking ticket, and staying too long in a metered or time-restricted space is also an infringement (wellington.govt.nz). The council’s parking-ticket service allows drivers to pay or appeal a ticket online using the notice number printed on the ticket. A driver challenging an infringement should use that council service and submit the appeal against the specific notice.
