Free public parking options in Corona, California

Preferential Permit Parking can create free on-street access for eligible residents and their guests, but those spaces are not a general public option. The program gives each household in an approved district one free permit, while the permit exempts residents and guests from specified local time limits or prohibitions (City of Corona). Drivers without that permit must treat the district’s posted restrictions as binding, including restrictions introduced near some schools and parks.

Corona permit and curb rules that affect free spaces
Corona’s street spaces remain free only where the city’s signs and curb painting do not impose a restriction. The City of Corona says those markings can restrict parking or stopping, so a driver cannot assume that an unmetered curb is unrestricted (City of Corona). The city also prohibits commercial parking on public streets, while special permits for limited parking are available through the Police Department.
Preferential Permit Parking districts are the main local exception to ordinary public access. Corona uses the program in qualified neighborhoods, including areas near some schools and parks, and the restrictions typically prohibit parking during specified periods for vehicles without permits (City of Corona). These amounts apply to permit holders, not to drivers seeking ordinary free street parking.
