Free street parking and public lots in Lakewood, Colorado
Lakewood allows operable vehicles to park on residential streets without a citywide limit on the number of vehicles, making legal curb space the main general free option for drivers. The City of Lakewood requires every vehicle to use an improved surface when parked on private property, but the street provision applies to ordinary operable vehicles (lakewoodco.gov).
Lakewood’s residential streets are not universally unrestricted: the city says there is a six-hour-or-less provision for parking on the street when necessary, so a driver seeking free parking should treat a qualifying stay as short-term rather than all-day storage (belmarcolorado.com).
Lakewood street limits and Applewood permit restrictions
Lakewood’s general residential street provision allows parking for six hours or less when necessary, so a free curb space is not automatically suitable for leaving a vehicle all day. Lakewood also limits recreational vehicles and travel trailers to 48 hours or less for loading or unloading on a city street, and the vehicle must be directly in front of the registered owner’s dwelling (lakewoodco.gov).
Selected streets in the Applewood Valley neighborhood operate as a residential permit area where only residents with permits and their permitted visitors may park (lakewoodco.gov). Applewood residents can apply for two free visitor permits, while additional visitor permits cost $10 plus a service fee each (parklakewoodco.com).
Lakewood parking ticket amounts and payment deadlines
Lakewood parking tickets do not add penalty points to a driver’s license, and each windshield ticket identifies the specific offense, amount due, date, and location. The city’s enhanced enforcement program is conducted throughout Lakewood by Interstate Parking, while parking tickets are processed through Lakewood Municipal Court (lakewoodco.gov).
Lakewood requires payment within 30 calendar days of the violation date. Paying the fine is a guilty plea and waives the right to appear in court; ticket instructions explain the payment process. A driver contesting a Lakewood parking ticket must appear at the Violations Bureau counter at 8:15 a.m., Monday through Thursday (cbsnews.com).
