Snow routes and twenty-four-hour removal rules in Trinidad
Trinidad’s emergency snow routes prohibit unattended parking from 2:00 A.M. to 6:00 A.M. after an accumulation of three inches of snow requires the city’s emergency snow-removal equipment (trinidad.co.gov). The designated segments include Pine Street between State Street and Commercial Street, Commercial Street between Pine Street and First Street, Animas Street between Purgatoire Drive and Main Street, and additional sections of Maple, Chestnut, Santa Fe Trail, Beech, Convent, Main, Elm, Plum, Church and First streets.
Trinidad’s code makes a vehicle parked on an emergency snow route subject to immediate impoundment when the vehicle obstructs snow-removal equipment (trinidad.co.gov). Trinidad also allows a vehicle or recreational vehicle parked in violation of the city code on a public street, highway or other public property for twenty-four hours or more to be removed and impounded by, or at the direction of, a police officer. The twenty-four-hour rule applies to an illegally parked vehicle, not to every legally parked car.
Planning around snow emergencies in Trinidad
Snow conditions are the clearest published trigger for a change in Trinidad street parking. When three inches of snow or more has accumulated and city emergency equipment is needed, emergency snow routes operate under the 2:00 A.M. to 6:00 A.M. prohibition until snow removal is complete (trinidad.co.gov). The affected streets include Pine, Commercial, Animas, Maple, Chestnut, Santa Fe Trail, Beech, Convent, Main, Elm, Plum, Church and First Street, with restrictions applying to the specific segments listed in the municipal code.
A vehicle that obstructs snow-removal equipment on one of Trinidad’s emergency snow routes can be immediately impounded (trinidad.co.gov).
Impoundment exposure for illegal parking in Trinidad
Trinidad’s municipal code allows removal and impoundment of a vehicle or recreational vehicle parked in violation of the city code on a public street, highway or other public property for twenty-four hours or more (trinidad.co.gov). The removal may be carried out by, or directed by, a police officer, and the code does not require prior notice for that impoundment provision.
Trinidad’s snow-route rule creates a faster consequence when an illegally parked vehicle obstructs emergency snow-removal equipment. Such a vehicle is subject to immediate impoundment when the three-inch snowfall condition requires emergency removal operations (trinidad.co.gov).
