Parking Near New Haven
New Haven Meter Hours, Posted Limits, and Permit Restrictions
New Haven’s street parking rules depend on the sign at the specific space. A free evening period does not remove a separate loading, no-parking, street-cleaning, or other posted restriction.
The rule concerns metered spaces, not resident-permit spaces or other controlled areas. A curb reserved for residents, businesses, or another specifically identified group is not a general free-parking option, and a driver without the required authorization cannot treat that space as free parking.

New Haven Parking Violations and Ticket Payment
New Haven enforces parking through the city’s meter and parking-enforcement system. A parking-prohibited violation carries a $30 fine, while Connecticut law requires the city to charge a $150 fine for the state-law violation described by the New Haven Independent (newhavenindependent.org). The amount depends on the violation listed on the ticket, so a driver should use the citation’s specific code rather than assume every parking ticket has the same penalty.
New Haven parking tickets can be paid through the city’s online parking-ticket portal, which is identified as the payment route for New Haven parking violations (tocite.net). The city’s parking pages also identify Go New Haven and ParkMobile for paid parking sessions, helping drivers start or extend an authorized session before a meter period expires (newhavenct.gov).
