Parking Near Kansas City
Free parking at 7th & Main and City Market Square
Kansas City drivers can park free at the 7th & Main parking lots beside the North Loop northbound streetcar stops at 601 Main Street and 711 Main Street on weekends (kcstreetcar.org). The lots provide a practical option for downtown visits when a short walk to the streetcar route suits the destination.
City Market Square provides free two-hour parking on weekdays, giving drivers a time-limited option for short visits to the City Market area (thecitymarketkc.org). City Market Square is separate from the 7th & Main lots, whose free availability applies on Saturdays and Sundays. Metered on-street parking in downtown Kansas City is free during evenings and weekends (visitkc.com).
Busy downtown Kansas City days and cheaper parking choices
Downtown Kansas City parking demand rises during events because the city charges a flat $30 to $40 in an event parking zone (kcur.org). Drivers visiting an event can avoid that event-zone rate by using a regular priced lot or a transit connection instead of parking in the designated event area.
The transit-center spaces are an alternative for drivers who can leave the car outside the busiest downtown blocks and continue by transit. Union Station Kansas City charges $7 for 30 minutes up to 4 hours, $16 for 4 to 8 hours, and $24 for 8 or more hours per day, with no overnight parking (unionstation.org).
Kansas City street signs, meters, and parking limits
Kansas City on-street parking rules vary by location: posted signs identify the applicable time limit, zone, and payment options, while KCPD and Park KC enforce on-street parking (kcmo.gov). A free evening or weekend period applies to metered on-street parking in downtown Kansas City, but a street sign's zone and time-limit information controls the individual space.
The 48-hour rule applies to street parking rather than the two-hour weekday allowance at City Market Square or the weekend availability at the 7th & Main lots. A disabled placard therefore changes the street-parking time allowance, not the posted payment terms for a paid lot.
