Charlotte Permit Zones, Accessible Spaces, and Meter Obligations
Charlotte’s residential parking permit locations include First Ward, Third Ward, Fourth Ward, Dilworth and Wilmore. On-street parking in those participating areas is restricted at specified hours to vehicles with a digital permit linked to the license plate, so a visitor cannot treat a resident-controlled space as general free parking (charlottenc.gov).
Fourth Ward and Fourth Ward West allow two hours of free parking before a temporary permit is required for a guest who remains longer. An accessible space has no time limit under North Carolina law, but Charlotte still requires payment for the entire stay when the accessible space is inside a metered zone (charlottenc.gov).
Charlotte Parking Tickets, Late Fees, and Towing Consequences
Charlotte imposes a $25 citation for occupying a metered space without proper payment or remaining in a time-limited space beyond the allowed time. Each hour or portion of an hour after the ticket can constitute a separate violation and an additional civil penalty (charlottenc.gov). Charlotte sets $100 citations for blocking a designated bicycle path, stopping a large or medium commercial vehicle in Uptown during weekday rush hours, obstructing a streetcar space, or occupying an electric-vehicle charging space without charging.
Charlotte adds a $25 late fee when a driver does not pay or appeal a violation within 30 days. The Park It office at 333 E. Trade Street, Suite A, is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the program lists 704-432-PARK (7275) for contact (charlottenc.gov).
