Jersey City parking meters operate in certain high-traffic business districts, while permit rules and meter rules are not enforced on days when the city suspends parking regulations (Jersey City Parking Division). Jersey City still enforces safety restrictions during those suspensions, including the bans on parking within 50 feet of a stop sign, within 25 feet of a crosswalk, within 10 feet of a fire hydrant, in designated bus stops, along marked yellow curbs, or in posted no-parking zones.
When Jersey City’s Free Spaces Fill Up
Free curb spaces in Jersey City are hardest to secure around high-traffic business districts because the city places parking meters in those areas (Jersey City Parking Division). Residential Zone 6 spaces also turn over during the weekday restriction period, when drivers without permits may not remain beyond two hours. A short visit is more realistic on a qualifying public holiday because the Zone 6 weekday restriction excludes public holidays.
Drivers needing a paid fallback near Journal Square can use an On Air Parking deal starting at $5.99 a day, with free cancellations (On Air Parking). Liberty State Park Light Rail Station is another park-and-ride starting point for transit users, although NJ Transit directs customers to contact local parking operators about rates, hours, and other details before parking (NJ Transit).
