Syracuse Street Rules That Can Cancel Free Parking
Syracuse odd-even parking applies most often in residential areas and changes the permitted side of a street for snowplowing and summer street cleaning. From 6 p.m. on an odd day to 6 p.m. on an even day, cars may park on the odd-addressed side; at 6 p.m., vehicles must switch to the even side (syr.gov).
Most Syracuse metered spaces have a two-hour maximum, although the City of Syracuse lists exceptions. After reaching the legal maximum in a space, a vehicle must leave that space; buying more time does not authorize staying longer, and moving to the adjacent space does not reset the allowance. The city also prohibits parking on sidewalks, across driveways, on crosswalks, within 10 feet of a fire hydrant, on or under bridges, and on lawns, vegetated areas, or bare ground (syr.gov).
Syracuse Parking Tickets, Towing, and Payment Deadlines
Syracuse parking violations can lead to ticketing or towing by the Syracuse Police Department when odd-even rules are violated. Vehicles parked in the central business district between midnight and 7 a.m. may also be ticketed or towed at the owner's expense. The City of Syracuse directs parking-violation reports to 315-442-5111 (syr.gov).
Syracuse parking ticket fines range from $25 to $100 depending on the violation, and the amount doubles after 20 days without payment (syracuse.com). A parking receipt can be used to contest a citation and document a business expense, while remaining paid time can be used at a different location only on the same date printed on the receipt (syr.gov).
