Parking Near South Side
Free Sundays and holiday parking on South Side streets
South Side drivers can use City of Columbus on-street parking spaces without payment on Sundays. The city also makes on-street parking free on New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Indigenous Peoples Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day (columbus.gov).
Columbus on-street parking remains subject to the posted space and zone rules, even when the payment requirement is suspended. The City of Columbus identifies mobile-pay zones, kiosks, meters, ADA parking, and permit parking through its ParkColumbus signs and parking map, so a free Sunday space is not automatically an unrestricted space (columbus.gov).

Columbus zone signs decide whether South Side parking remains free
The City of Columbus requires drivers to check the blue ParkColumbus sign for the mobile-pay zone number at the place where they park. The city’s parking map distinguishes kiosks, meters, ADA parking, permit parking, and other on-street controls, so a South Side space may be regulated even when a nearby space is free on a Sunday (columbus.gov).
Columbus permit parking is a separate category from general free parking. A space identified as permit parking belongs to the applicable permit arrangement, while ADA parking is identified separately on the city’s map. Free holiday or Sunday payment periods therefore do not turn permit spaces into general parking spaces (columbus.gov).
Columbus parking tickets become more expensive after the first week
The City of Columbus gives a $20 early-payment discount when a parking ticket is paid within the first 7 days. Columbus adds a $10 late penalty when the ticket is not paid within 30 days, except for Failure to Display a Valid Registration under 2151.21(a), which does not receive the early discount or late-fee treatment described by the city (columbus.gov).
A driver who disputes a citation must use the city’s ticket process rather than treating a ticket as an ordinary parking charge (columbus.gov).
