Knoxville parking alternatives when free spaces fill
Free spaces are most constrained during downtown special events because the City of Knoxville warns that special event parking rates may apply at garages and lots (knoxvilletn.gov).
State Street Garage charges $1 an hour with a $7 weekday maximum and is free when entering after 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. University of Tennessee visitor parking is not a free general option: hourly campus spaces charge $2 an hour, and special events can affect availability and pricing (knoxparking.org). Knoxville time limits, payment hours, and accessible parking rules
Knoxville’s on-street payment and enforcement hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The City assigns different maximum stays by zone: the 2-hour Parking Zone charges $2 an hour, the 4-hour Parking Zone charges $1 an hour, and the 10-hour maximum zone on S. Central from S. Hill to Main St. charges $1 an hour. Free overnight and Sunday parking does not remove a posted maximum stay (knoxvilletn.gov).
A valid ADA placard or license plate lets the holder park free in designated accessible on-street spaces, standard on-street spaces for the designated zone time limit, City garages, and City lots. Accessible parking remains limited to the posted on-street time limit, is not allowed in commercial zones without a commercial plate, and is not allowed in no-parking zones. Knoxville’s public facilities may also have posted restrictions for special events, while UT parking regulations are enforceable seven days a week, 24 hours a day, including holidays and breaks (knoxvilletn.gov). Knoxville parking citations, late fees, and appeals
Knoxville City parking citations are issued in public lots, and the City adds a $9 late fee after 10 days with no action. Drivers can pay a Knox Park citation by scanning the QR code on the back of the citation or visiting KnoxPark.AIMSParking.com (knoxvilletn.gov).
The City of Knoxville provides an appeal route through the QR code on the citation, where the driver can set an appeal date and attach documentation. The appeal process has conditions and associated fees, so the citation details control the required steps. Drivers who need clarification can contact the Public Building Authority’s Director of Security at 865-215-2456, while UT Medical, UT Police Department, and Knoxville Police Department citations use their respective listed contacts and processes (knoxvilletn.gov).
