Free parking on Olney’s High Street and at the Market Place
Olney’s High Street has no parking restrictions until the road approaches the Market Place, where a one-hour restriction applies to the signed section (olneytowncouncil.gov.uk). The Market Place itself is used as a car park when no markets are running, offering three hours of free parking from 8am to 6pm. Around the Market Place, parking is limited to one hour from 8am to 6pm.
Cattle Market at Silver End provides unrestricted parking, while East Street by the Rugby Club and Fountain Court also have no restrictions (olneytowncouncil.gov.uk). The Market Place car park and the Market Place spaces in front of the Post Office include disabled spaces, and the Market Place has a space allocated for electric-vehicle charging. Drivers using Stanley Court or the Co-op should not treat those spaces as general free parking because parking there is restricted to two hours and managed by a private operator.
Olney time limits and parking controls that affect free stays
The High Street remains unrestricted until the section close to the Market Place, where a one-hour limit applies, so the street does not have one single rule throughout its length (olneytowncouncil.gov.uk). The Market Place provides three free hours from 8am to 6pm when no market is operating, while the area around the Market Place allows one hour from 8am to 6pm.
Cattle Market at Silver End, East Street by the Rugby Club, and Fountain Court are listed as having no restrictions (olneytowncouncil.gov.uk). Stanley Court and the Co-op have a two-hour restriction under private management, making those spaces different from Olney’s unrestricted locations. Disabled spaces are available at the Market Place car park and on the Market Place in front of the Post Office, but the spaces are reserved for disabled users rather than being general free parking.
Penalty Charge Notices for overstaying Olney’s Market Place parking
Olney’s Market Place car park issues Penalty Charge Notices when a driver exceeds the three-hour free limit applying from 8am to 6pm when no markets are running (olneytowncouncil.gov.uk). The surrounding Market Place spaces have a separate one-hour limit from 8am to 6pm, so an overstay there is judged against the shorter restriction.
Milton Keynes Council is responsible for issuing Penalty Charge Notices in Olney (olneytowncouncil.gov.uk). Drivers with an issue about a parking ticket can contact Milton Keynes Council through its parking-ticket service. Stanley Court and the Co-op are managed by a private operator, so their two-hour restriction is separate from the council-issued Market Place penalty process.
