Provo rules that can turn a free street space into a violation
Provo City requires vehicles parked on a City street or City property to have current registration and to move at least every 72 hours by a minimum of 400 feet before returning to the same location (provo.gov). Recreational vehicles, trailers, boats, and similar conveyances may not remain on a public street or alley for more than 72 consecutive hours, and moving one and re-parking it on the same block face does not reset that period.
Provo’s residential permit areas restrict on-street parking to residents who have obtained permits, with restrictions varying by district (provo.gov). A permit requires home ownership in the permit area or residence in a rental with a valid rental dwelling license, while residents of Arlington, Belmont, Highland Park, and King Henry apartments are not eligible. Provo also prohibits parking on sidewalks, in driveways, intersections, bike lanes, and disability stalls, as well as within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.
Cheaper Provo parking choices when free spaces disappear
Freedom Surface Lot’s complimentary convention-center parking is limited to a maximum of 175 convention center attendees, so the free arrangement does not apply generally to every driver (utahvalleycc.com). Provo Airport’s long-term lot also offers a first-two-hours-free period for people coming in person to purchase tickets during ticket counter hours (airport.provo.gov). These alternatives are best matched to the visit they serve: the convention center lot for downtown events and the airport lot for ticket-counter business.
Provo parking citations, five-day response, and appeals
The city’s published citation page directs drivers to pay or appeal online.
A Hearing Examiner reviews the appeal, the officer’s comments, and associated photo evidence, then may uphold, dismiss, or reduce the violation. If an appeal is upheld, Provo requires payment within seven days of the Hearing Examiner’s decision to avoid late fees. Payments can be made online, by mail to 445 W Center Street Suite 140, or in person through Provo311 Customer Service.
