Free curb spaces can be difficult to find when downtown Salt Lake City attracts shoppers, visitors, or event traffic, because city curbside parking is intended for short visits and spaces are turned over frequently. UTA park-and-ride lots provide a named low-cost alternative for drivers who continue by transit: UTA offers free parking for active transit users, and some lots offer single-day parking. (rideuta.com/Rider-Info/Park-and-Ride-Lots) This option suits commuters and event visitors who do not need the car beside their final destination.

A permit area can impose a time limit, such as two-hour parking from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. except Saturday, Sunday, and holidays, or can prohibit parking during stated days and hours.
