Norfolk meter hours, limits and disability concessions
Norfolk's ordinary on-street meters generally allow two hours, while the meters in front of Waterside Marketplace allow 15 minutes (norfolk.gov).
A valid disabled license plate or hanging tag permits free parking at an on-street metered space for the posted time, up to two hours at most downtown meters and 15 minutes at Waterside. Disabled drivers using Norfolk garages or lots may park for unlimited time only while paying the posted hourly rates.
Parksy parking near Norfolk destinations
When Norfolk's free downtown spaces are occupied, Parksy lists an affordable parking lot with shuttle service in Norfolk at $3.95 a day, 164 yards away. The short distance and daily rate suit visitors who need a low-cost alternative to circling downtown, particularly when a free two-hour garage stay is too short.
Parksy also lists a parking garage at 555 E. Main St. for $12 a day, 0.5 mile away. That priced garage suits drivers who want a named downtown-area facility for a longer visit. For extended vehicle storage, an accessible Norfolk car-storage space costs $19 a month and is 2.1 miles away. Monthly outdoor parking at 4.4 miles costs $213 a month, while a separate outdoor lot for RV and car storage at the same distance also costs $213 a month. A Virginia Beach driveway space costs $110 a month and is 5.6 miles away, making it a farther monthly option rather than a short downtown stop.
Norfolk event days and cheaper paid backups
Free parking becomes less dependable during Norfolk's special events because the Parking Division can switch facilities to collect-on-entry operation. Norfolk lists special-event collect-on-entry rates of $5 or $10 per vehicle at all facilities, a $2 special-event fee at MacArthur Center garages, a $12 special collect-on-entry rate, and a $6 rate at Harbor Park (norfolk.gov).
For a driver who cannot use a free space, the named city garages and Union Street Lot participating in the two-hour program provide the cheapest defined initial stay because the first two hours are free (norfolk.gov). The shuttle lot is the lower-cost backup for a full-day visit, and the E. Main Street garage suits drivers who prefer a garage.
