Vehicle Size Restrictions on Preston Streets

Most residential streets, such as Clyde Street and Howard Street, restrict heavy vehicles over 4.5 tonnes during specific hours to ensure pedestrian safety and smooth traffic flow. Vehicles longer than 7.5 meters may not be allowed in some residential zones, so always check signage carefully before parking your moving vehicle.

The Darebin City Council enforces these rules consistently to protect local infrastructure and community access. Always verify the specific measurements of your rental truck against posted restrictions. Ignoring these limits can result in fines ranging from $150 to $300, plus the hassle of having your vehicle relocated.
Navigating Commercial Zone Parking During Your Move
In busy commercial zones, such as near Preston Train Station, parking restrictions during peak hours apply strictly to maintain clear access for businesses and residents. The peak period typically runs from 7am to 9am and 4pm to 6pm on weekdays, when foot traffic is heaviest. Understanding these windows helps you schedule your moving day strategically, avoiding times when enforcement officers are most active.
Local businesses depend on clear access, so keeping compliant ensures everyone can move around safely.
