Understanding Belgrave's Residential Parking Permits
In Belgrave, residential parking permits are the foundation of the local parking system. These permits allow eligible residents to park on their street without the usual time restrictions that plague visitors and commuters. However, they don't apply to 'no stopping' zones, loading zones, or timed areas with 30 minutes or less. If you live on a street with timed restrictions, you may qualify, but properties subdivided after 31 August 2011, like newer townhouses, typically aren't eligible. Each eligible address gets up to two permits, though properties with a shop or crossover are limited to just one.
To qualify, you'll need to confirm your eligibility first. You must reside on a street with timed parking restrictions and provide documents proving residency: a driver's license, utility bill, or valid email address works. The Merri-bek City Council processes applications within days. Permit eligibility depends on when your property was built and its current configuration. Understanding these rules saves frustration later. For comprehensive details, check the Merri-bek residential parking permits page to confirm your status.

Trade parking permits are invaluable for plumbers, electricians, and contractors who need reliable access during service calls.
Event parking permits also cater to temporary needs, whether you're hosting a gathering or attending functions at local venues. Keep in mind that permits don't guarantee a specific spot. They simply grant you the right to park in restricted areas. Fees vary depending on permit type and duration. For moving or construction situations, explore temporary parking permits for short-term flexibility. The application process is straightforward online or in person at the council office.
