Understanding Midtown's Residential Permit System
Midtown, Alberta offers a tiered residential parking permit structure designed for households in ground-oriented dwellings like townhouses and duplexes. Each household can obtain up to three permits annually, with costs scaled to encourage responsible vehicle ownership. The first permit runs $30 per year, the second costs $45, and the third reaches $70. These permits are restricted to specific zones and cannot transfer between different residential parking areas throughout Midtown.
The permit system supports neighborhoods along 14 Street SW and 39 Avenue NW, where on-street parking demand runs high. Residents must live in qualifying properties within designated Residential Parking Zones to be eligible. Permits remain valid for twelve months from approval. You'll also receive two Visitor Permits per household, allowing guests to park within 150 metres of your address during their stays in Midtown.
Temporary Permits for Visitors and Trade Work
Visitor and trade permits provide flexible short-term parking solutions for Midtown residents hosting guests or contractors. These temporary credentials allow flexibility without requiring permanent permit commitments. Visitors can park in restricted zones near your home, making it simple to accommodate family gatherings or social events throughout Midtown's residential streets.
Trade permits serve contractors, landscapers, and service professionals working on properties across Midtown. The system ensures tradespeople can park conveniently while completing home repairs or installations near the Midtown Market area. Day passes and short-stay vouchers keep streets organized while supporting the local economy. Applying for these temporary options takes minimal effort through the standard permit portal, and approval typically arrives within 48 hours of submission.
