Permit Types for Residents and Businesses
Cap-de-la-Madeleine offers several parking permit categories tailored to different needs across the city. Residents living along rue Notre-Dame, rue Sainte-Ursule, and surrounding residential zones can obtain annual resident permits. These permits eliminate daily parking fees entirely and provide unlimited access to designated resident parking zones throughout the municipality. This arrangement saves households significant money over twelve months. Business owners operating near the Basilique Notre-Dame du Cap or the downtown commercial core benefit from dedicated business parking permits. These permits ensure reliable customer access.
For service providers and tradespeople, the city issues temporary trade parking permits that are valid near active job sites. These short-term credentials prevent costly fines while workers service residential and commercial properties. Visitor permits round out the program by offering tourists and temporary guests affordable daily or weekly access. This option allows them to avoid navigating complicated regulations. The Ville de Cap-de-la-Madeleine manages all permit distribution through its municipal office located on rue Sainte-Ursule. This ensures transparent allocation based on local demand and zoning restrictions.

Resident Permit Zones and Parking Restrictions
Cap-de-la-Madeleine divides residential neighbourhoods into four distinct permit parking zones. These zones are marked by street signage and painted curbs. Zone A encompasses the historic quarter near the Basilique. Here, parking demand peaks during pilgrimage seasons and religious holidays. Zone B covers the commercial strip along rue Notre-Dame Est. In this area, resident permits prevent all-day worker parking from displacing homeowners. Zone C includes the river-adjacent residential areas. Finally, Zone D serves the southwestern residential sector near local schools.
Each zone operates under identical rules. Permit holders can park free in designated bays, while non-permit vehicles face $50 fines within ten minutes of violation. Permits display the resident's name, vehicle plate, and zone assignment on the windscreen. Occasionally, street maintenance schedules suspend parking on alternate sides. The municipality publishes these schedules quarterly on its website. If permits are lost or damaged, it costs $15 CAD to replace them. Understanding these zone restrictions helps prevent unnecessary citations and ensures parking equity for all residents in the neighbourhood.
Visitor Permits and Short-Term Parking Solutions
Temporary visitors require daily or weekly vouchers to park legally in Cap-de-la-Madeleine. This helps them avoid incurring fines. Residents can purchase visitor vouchers in booklets of ten at the municipal office or through the online portal. Each booklet costs $50 CAD, which breaks down to five dollars per day. These vouchers display the date, visitor name, and vehicle plate. They provide proof of authorization when displayed on the windscreen. Visitors who plan to stay longer than two weeks should apply for temporary resident status instead of daily vouchers.
Event parking during Basilique festivals or summer celebrations operates under special temporary permit protocols. These are managed by the municipality and event organizers. Advance event permit registration opens six weeks before major gatherings. This registration offers discounted rates for attendees who book online. During peak demand periods (such as Easter week, Assumption Day, and local cultural festivals) daily voucher supplies can be exhausted by mid-morning. Therefore, advance booking guarantees access.
