Residential Permit Parking in Notre-Dame
In Notre-Dame, New Brunswick, residential street parking is carefully managed through a permit system designed to serve local residents fairly. The city enforces permit-only zones across designated neighborhoods to ensure that those living here have reliable access to on-street spaces. Applicants must provide proof of residence within the target zone, and permits are issued based on household vehicles. This approach dramatically reduces congestion while protecting parking access for actual residents rather than commuters passing through.
The permit application process is straightforward but requires documentation. You'll need to submit proof of residency, vehicle registration, and driver identification to the Notre-Dame municipal office. Once approved, your residential parking permit is typically valid for 12 months and must be displayed on your vehicle's windscreen. Renewal reminders arrive by mail, and most residents report the system works smoothly when you follow the signage carefully. Parking without a valid permit in these zones can result in fines up to $100 CAD.

Parking restrictions in Notre-Dame operate on a strict weekday schedule. From 8 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday, enforcement rangers patrol the streets actively checking compliance. Weekends and statutory holidays generally have relaxed restrictions, though always verify the signage on your specific street. Winter months bring additional temporary bans for snow removal operations, typically announced by the city with at least one week's notice. Staying informed about these seasonal changes prevents costly surprises.
The Notre-Dame municipal council publishes regular updates on parking rule changes via their official channels. Electronic enforcement technology, including Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras, now monitors violations 24/7 in high-traffic areas near Rue de la Paix and the Basilica district. Understanding Metered Parking Zones
Notre-Dame's central business district features numerous metered parking bays designed for short-term visitors and shoppers. Rates typically cost $1.50 per hour, with time limits ranging from 1 to 4 hours depending on location and demand. Both traditional coin-operated meters and modern mobile payment apps are available, giving drivers flexibility in how they pay. Popular metered zones include those near local shops and community centres, making them ideal for quick errands or appointments.
Each meter displays its specific tariff schedule and time restrictions clearly on signage above the bay. Payment via the city's mobile app offers real-time notifications when your time is expiring, reducing the risk of overstaying accidentally. High-demand areas near Notre-Dame Basilica and Place d'Armes fill quickly during peak hours, so arriving early improves your chances significantly.
