In Surrey, fees for retrieving a towed vehicle can vary, often starting around $200 CAD, depending on the specific circumstances of the tow. Have your driver's license, vehicle registration, and proof of ownership ready when you call. Understanding Impound Fees and Payment Options
Recovering a towed vehicle in Surrey involves understanding the cost structure upfront. Towing fees typically range from $100 to $300 depending on vehicle size and towing distance, with standard release fees starting around $250. Beyond that, daily storage charges accumulate at approximately $50 per day, meaning a week-long delay could add $350 to your bill. Most towing companies accept cash or credit card payments, though you'll need valid identification present at the impound lot to complete the transaction and release your vehicle.
The British Columbia Vehicle Impoundment Program provides transparent fee schedules and provincial regulations you should review before recovery. Storage charges begin immediately after towing, so delaying pickup is costly. If your vehicle was towed near Surrey Central or Gateway SkyTrain stations, common enforcement hotspots, you may also face separate parking violation fines ranging up to $45 per day. Keep all receipts and documentation for potential dispute claims or insurance purposes.
Disputing Wrongful Tows and Claiming Reimbursement
You have legal rights if you believe your vehicle was towed unlawfully or without proper signage in Surrey. Before disputing, verify that the towing company followed correct protocols: clear warning signs about no-parking zones must be visible at the location where your car was removed. Check photographs of the area and gather witness accounts if possible. If signage was absent or unclear, particularly in areas near Nautilus attraction or busy commercial districts, you have grounds for a formal complaint and potential compensation claim.
File a dispute directly with the towing operator, providing all documentation including receipts, parking tickets (if issued), photos of the location, and your vehicle details. If the company won't cooperate, escalate to Surrey's local council or the provincial impoundment authority for mediation. Many drivers successfully recover fees when operators fail to display required signage or violate established procedures. For detailed guidance on your rights and the dispute process, consult the parking dispute resolution guide or contact local authorities directly.
