Preventing Tows: Understanding Tenderloin Parking Rules
Tenderloin parking regulations are notoriously strict, with street clearance rules enforced around the clock. Street sweeping occurs on specific days, and violating these clearance windows guarantees a tow. Read signs carefully on Market Street, O'Farrell Street, and Jones Street. These major corridors have frequent enforcement. Many drivers assume they can park briefly, only to discover their car towed within minutes of violating posted restrictions.
Fire hydrant zones, bus stops, and red curb areas are no-parking zones year-round. The Tenderloin, with its dense infrastructure and Civic Center proximity, has particularly aggressive enforcement. Expired meters, even by one hour, trigger towing without warning. Before parking anywhere in Tenderloin, examine all signage thoroughly and verify meter time if parking on the street. This simple habit prevents costly impound fees and eliminates days of frustration navigating recovery logistics.
