Finding Your Vehicle After Towing
Finding your vehicle missing can be heart-stopping. If you parked near the Visitacion Valley Community Center or along San Bruno Avenue, you'll want to act fast. The reality is that in San Francisco, over 40% of towed vehicles were parked illegally, which means hefty fees and frustrating recovery processes. Whether your car was towed for expired registration, unpaid tickets, or being in the wrong place, the immediate panic can leave you feeling lost and confused about next steps.
Once the shock wears off, stay calm and take practical action. First, contact the San Francisco Police Department at 1-415-865-8200 to confirm if your vehicle was towed. You'll need your license plate number and suspected tow location. Be prepared with proof of ownership and your driver's license when you arrive to reclaim your vehicle.
Understanding Towing Fees and Payment Options
Towing fees add up quickly in Visitacion Valley. The initial release fee for vehicles towed by the San Francisco Police Department typically starts around $300, but this increases based on tow circumstances. Daily storage charges at the impound are approximately $50 per day, so delays mean higher costs. Payment methods include cash, ATM cards, and major credit cards, but checks are never accepted. The cardholder must be present with valid identification matching the card name.
Before heading to the impound, call ahead to check your vehicle's status and confirm fees. Certain low-income programs may offer fee waivers or reductions if you're facing financial difficulties.
