Dispute Wrongful Towing and Recover Your Fees
Not every tow is justified. If signage was absent, covered, or contradictory, you may have grounds to dispute the tow and recover impound release fees. The guide to disputing parking violations walks through the formal complaint process step by step.
File a dispute with both the towing company and the City of Dallas within 30 days of the incident. Write a clear, factual letter explaining why the tow was unlawful. Include photographs, timestamps, and witness contact information if available. Deep Ellum's rapid development means parking rules change frequently: what was legal last month might not be today. Many wrongful tows stem from unclear enforcement rather than driver negligence. The Dallas Police Department can assist in verifying whether the tow complied with city ordinances.
Compensation is possible if you win your dispute. You can recover towing and storage charges plus potential damages for inconvenience. Some drivers successfully negotiate partial refunds even without a formal dispute, especially when signage issues are evident. Knowing your rights transforms frustration into action. Local residents who've fought tows report that persistence and documentation almost always yield results.
