The council charges a nominal fee of $10 AUD for the permit, which allows for the use of designated accessible parking bays throughout The Range and beyond. These designated spaces are wider than standard bays, ensuring that individuals can enter and exit their vehicles with ease. Understanding Disability Parking Permits in The Range
In The Range, individuals with disabilities can access two types of permits. The Australian disability parking permit and the red permit for existing holders both offer essential access to dedicated spaces. If you're moving to Queensland from another state with an existing red permit, you must apply for a new one within 14 days of becoming a resident. The good news? These disability parking permits are issued completely free of charge, removing financial barriers for those who need them most.
To qualify for a disability parking permit, you'll need to demonstrate specific medical conditions. Mobility impairments requiring a wheelchair or severely restricting walking abilities qualify you. Vision impairments classified as legally blind also meet the criteria. However, other impairments alone won't suffice unless paired with an eligible mobility or vision condition. Mater Private Hospital Rockhampton, just 624 meters away, serves many local residents who benefit from these dedicated access spaces.
The Application Process for Disability Parking
Applying for a disability parking permit in The Range involves straightforward steps. Applicants with mobility impairments can complete the process online, though medical certification from a healthcare professional is typically required. Your doctor or occupational therapist must complete 'Part 2 - Medical details' of the application form, which you'll attach to your online submission if you're new to the system or your previous permit expired over three months ago. This ensures that those genuinely needing accessible parking access receive proper support and verification.
For those diagnosed as legally blind, the application differs slightly. You'll need documentation such as a Vision Impairment Travel Pass or a Centrelink Blind Concession Card. If these documents aren't available, medical certification serves as an alternative. The process remains straightforward despite these variations.
