Understanding the Disability Parking Permit System
In East Perth, the Disability Parking Permit system is designed to support individuals with accessibility needs. This permit gives holders access to concessional parking rates both on-street and in off-street car parks within the City of Perth, making daily transportation significantly easier. The City recognizes both international and interstate permits, which remain valid for three months upon arrival in Western Australia. After this period, a new permit must be acquired from National Disabilities Services (NDS) to continue enjoying the benefits of accessible parking.
Permit holders must be present in the vehicle, either as the driver or a passenger, to qualify for these concessions. If parking in boom gate car parks, permit holders enjoy an additional two hours free after the initial hour is paid. This flexibility makes managing your parking budget straightforward and predictable.
How to Apply for Your Disability Parking Permit
Applying for a Disability Parking Permit in East Perth involves several straightforward steps. First, individuals need to obtain a medical assessment from a general practitioner (GP), confirming their eligibility based on specific health criteria outlined in the Australian Disability Parking Scheme. This certification is vital, as it forms the basis of the application and must be submitted alongside all relevant forms to NDS.
Once the medical certification is in hand, you can fill out the application form provided by the NDS.
