While the required documentation is straightforward, it is essential to get it right from the start.
Steps to Secure Your Mobility Parking Permit

Understanding Disability Parking Regulations
Legal obligations surrounding disability parking permits protect both permit holders and the wider community. Accessible parking bays must meet specific dimensional requirements. They also need to be clearly marked with appropriate signage. Misuse of designated spots undermines the system and frustrates genuine users. Enforcement officers regularly patrol high-use areas to monitor compliance. Fines escalate for repeated violations and can potentially reach $300 NZD or more. Understanding these rules helps you use your permit responsibly while maintaining respect within your community.
Eligibility criteria include wheelchair users, individuals with severe walking restrictions, or those requiring mobility aids due to medical conditions. Your GP's certification must clearly document why you need accessible parking access. The assessment considers both permanent and temporary conditions that affect mobility. CCS Disability Action can clarify specific eligibility questions when you contact them. Permits recognise genuine need, so applications are evaluated fairly against consistent standards. For those exploring accessibility further, understanding your disability parking rights provides additional context and support.
