First, contact the towing company to dispute the towing if you parked legally. Be prepared to provide evidence, such as photos or witness statements, that support your case. In many situations, wrongful tows occur due to miscommunication about parking signage or temporary clearway rules that weren't clearly posted. Document everything from the start, including the date, time, location, and any photographs showing the absence of proper warning signs.
You can seek compensation for any costs incurred due to the wrongful tow. For instance, if your vehicle was moved for safety reasons rather than illegal parking, you may not have to pay towing fees at all. Local residents near Leslie Park or those commuting from transport hubs might find themselves needing this guidance. The Hutt City Council's parking rules and charges information provides valuable context on what constitutes legitimate towing. If the towing company refuses to refund your fees, you can escalate the matter to the local authority for mediation and potential compensation recovery.
