Free Parking Places for Visitors Across Medway
Curtis Way Coach Park provides free parking in Medway for coaches and minibuses, making it suitable for organised groups rather than ordinary car visits (visitmedway.org). Medway Maritime Hospital has free Blue Badge parking in Car Park 1 on the ground floor, but the concession is for Blue Badge holders attending the hospital, not general visitors.
Medway Council describes shared-use bays as spaces that can combine permit-holder parking with either pay-and-display or limited-wait parking.
Cheaper Medway Parking When Free Spaces Are Taken
Medway Maritime Hospital’s two visitor car parks are intended for patients and visitors, but limited parking is available and the hospital recommends public transport where possible. Car Park 1 is at the main hospital entrance, while Car Park 2 is by the Sunderland Day Case Centre and the Green Zone Level 2 ramp (medway.nhs.uk).
Country parks also have an annual season ticket valid across all country parks, which suits frequent leisure visits rather than a short town-centre stop.
Medway Bay and Permit Rules That Affect Free Stays
Medway controlled parking zones regulate on-street parking during specified times, and the council’s address search identifies the zone applying to a particular road. A permit-holder-only bay requires a permit or voucher during its operational hours, while a shared-use bay can allow limited-wait parking without a permit for the period shown on the sign (medway.gov.uk). Resident permits are issued to residents and businesses within the relevant zone, so a resident space is not a general free option for visiting drivers.
Medway prohibits parking on single yellow lines during controlled hours unless signs say otherwise, and double yellow lines apply at all times. A Blue Badge must be displayed in a disabled bay, while a Blue Badge holder does not also need a permit in a disabled bay. Medway allows Blue Badge holders to park on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours, subject to the badge rules (medway.gov.uk). Uniformed civil enforcement officers patrol CPZs and issue penalty charge notices for illegal parking.

Medway Parking Penalties and How to Deal With a PCN
Medway Council’s controlled-parking enforcement sets higher-level penalty charge notices at £70, reduced to £35 when paid within 14 days. Uniformed civil enforcement officers issue PCNs to vehicles parked illegally in controlled parking zones, including vehicles in permit bays without the required permit or voucher.
Medway Council’s payment service accepts a PCN using the notice reference and vehicle registration, and the council publishes a dedicated “Pay a Penalty Charge Notice” process (medway.gov.uk). A driver who receives a notice can use the council’s PCN process to make payment or pursue the council’s challenge route rather than treating the ticket as a normal parking charge.
