Northampton Permit Zones and Limits That Affect Free Bays
West Northamptonshire Council says a Northampton town-centre resident permit allows parking in the allotted zone but not on yellow lines, footways, verges or time-limited bays beyond the permitted period (westnorthants.gov.uk). A permit does not guarantee a space in a particular street, and vehicles must be wholly within a marked bay.
Residents with a valid Blue Badge may park in permit bays and zones without the usual restrictions or a resident permit, provided the badge is displayed clearly with its serial number and expiry date visible. A valid Blue Badge also permits parking in mandatory disabled bays on roads with resident parking, whether or not the driver lives in the zone. These concessions belong to eligible Blue Badge users and do not turn ordinary permit bays into general free parking.
Northampton PCN Amounts and Ways to Challenge a Parking Fine
West Northamptonshire Council parking PCNs are charged at either £70, reduced to £35 when paid within 14 days, or £50, reduced to £25 when paid within 14 days (westnorthants.gov.uk). The amount depends on the contravention recorded by the council, so an overstayed or incorrectly used free bay can result in a charge even when no parking fee was due.
West Northamptonshire Council accepts parking PCN payments online, by telephone or by post, and provides an appeal route for drivers who believe the notice was issued incorrectly. A genuine council parking PCN is placed on the vehicle when the driver returns, while the council warns that it never issues PCNs by text message. Bus-lane PCNs are separate: the penalty is £70, reduced to £35 when paid within 21 days.
