Parking Near Conwy
Free Parking at Mill Hill Gyffin and Conwy Culture Centre
Mill Hill Gyffin, LL32 8LR, is identified as Conwy’s only official free parking option, with 25 spaces (conwyvalleygetaway.co.uk). The site suits drivers who want to leave a car outside the busiest castle and town-centre streets, although its small capacity means spaces can disappear quickly.
The Culture Centre car park is free from Monday to Friday, while charges apply at weekends and on Bank Holidays (conwylibraries.com). The same information identifies a car park by Conwy Cricket Club, with a path leading towards the Culture Centre, making that area useful for weekday visits when the free weekday facility is available.
Conwy Restrictions That Can End a Free Stay
Conwy Council lists parking longer than permitted under contravention code 30 and parking beyond the maximum time under code 80 (conwy.gov.uk). A free bay therefore remains free only for the signed duration, and leaving after the limit can still result in enforcement.
Conwy Council also lists re-parking in the same parking space within the return time under code 22, and re-parking within one hour of leaving a bay or space in a car park under code 90 (conwy.gov.uk). Residents’ and shared-use spaces require either the relevant permit or a pay-and-display ticket under code 12, while residents’ spaces require a valid residents’ parking permit under code 15.
Conwy Council treats a disabled-person’s space as restricted unless a valid disabled person’s badge is clearly displayed, covering on-street spaces under code 40 and car-park spaces under code 87 (conwy.gov.uk). A badge concession does not turn every bay into unrestricted free parking.
What to Use When Conwy’s Free Spaces Are Full
Mill Hill Gyffin has only 25 spaces, so its free capacity is particularly limited on busy visiting days and during events in Conwy (conwyvalleygetaway.co.uk). Street parking near Ysgol Aberconwy is also reported as free, but the location is close to a school and the available spaces are not described as a dedicated car park.
The Culture Centre car park is a practical weekday fallback because it is free Monday to Friday, but the facility is charged at weekends and on Bank Holidays (conwylibraries.com). The car park by Conwy Cricket Club also serves the Culture Centre area through its connecting path, giving drivers another named place to consider when the central streets are busy.
Conwy Parking Penalties and How Enforcement Works
Conwy Council’s contravention list classifies parking in a restricted street during prescribed hours, parking in a residents’ or shared-use place without the required authorisation, and parking in a designated disabled-person’s place without a valid badge as higher-level contraventions (conwy.gov.uk). The council classifies parking longer than permitted, parking after paid-for time expires, and failing to display a valid pay-and-display ticket as lower-level contraventions.
Conwy Council records observation periods for some offences: code 01 has five minutes, code 25 has ten minutes, and codes 06 and 83 have five minutes (conwy.gov.uk). The council also lists code 93 for parking in a car park when closed, code 92 for causing an obstruction, and code 99 for stopping on a pedestrian crossing area marked by zig zags.
Conwy’s online service accepts representations, challenges and payments for a Parking Penalty Charge Notice (conwy.zatappeal.com).
