Ceredigion restrictions that can turn a free bay into a contravention
Ceredigion County Council enforces on-street and off-street restrictions seven days a week through six permanent and two seasonal Civil Enforcement Officers (ceredigion.gov.uk). Council enforcement covers overstaying time limits in parking bays, parking on yellow lines, using pedestrian crossing zigzags, blocking drop kerbs and parking more than 50 centimetres from the kerb.
Cardigan’s Pendre Car Park is designated as a short-stay car park for all days from 8am to 6pm, with a maximum stay of two hours (ceredigion.gov.uk).
Busy Ceredigion parking days and lower-cost Cardigan alternatives
Cardigan has lower-cost alternatives at the community enterprise 4CG car parks in Chancery Lane and Morgan Street. The 4CG tariff is 40p for up to 30 minutes, 60p for up to one hour, £1 for up to two hours and £1.50 for up to three hours, with cash payment only (cardiganu3a.org.uk). Camera monitoring applies at both 4CG sites, and failure to pay the correct amount can result in an £80 penalty charge.
Ceredigion PCN amounts and the challenge process
Ceredigion County Council issues two levels of Penalty Charge Notice. A higher-level offence costs £70 and a lower-level offence costs £50, with a 50% reduction for payment within 14 days and a potential 50% increase when payment has not been made within 28 days (ceredigion.gov.uk).
Ceredigion County Council says a Civil Enforcement Officer cannot cancel a PCN once it has been issued. A driver can pay a PCN by post using a cheque, postal order or debit or credit card, or challenge it through the council’s payment and challenge process (ceredigion.gov.uk).
