Free street parking in Hartford after 6 p.m. and on weekends
Hartford’s main general free-parking option is curbside parking on most streets after 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and throughout weekends, according to Hartford.com. The Hartford Parking Authority says street signs and parking meters identify when the free period applies, so the arrangement is useful for evening visits, weekend errands, and events that finish after enforcement hours. A driver should match the space to the sign or meter on that particular block because the city’s wording applies to most streets, not every curb.
For a normal daytime visit, free curb parking therefore depends on the applicable street sign or meter.
Hartford signs, meters, and snow bans control whether parking remains free
Hartford’s free evening and weekend street arrangement is controlled by the sign or meter at the space. Hartford.com specifically directs drivers to street signage and parking meters for the effective free-parking information, while the Hartford Parking Authority states that the minimum paid purchase is 25 cents for 15 minutes (hartfordparking.com). A free period therefore does not authorize parking where a posted restriction, meter instruction, or other curb control applies.
Hartford’s snow parking ban changes the rule citywide: when the mayor declares a snow emergency, all on-street parking is prohibited, and cars left on city streets are ticketed and towed (hartfordct.gov). Residents without off-street parking may move vehicles to the city’s authorized snow-ban areas, including Blue Light Lots and listed municipal facilities. Hartford requires vehicles to leave City Blue Light Lots within four hours after the ban is lifted, while school lots must be cleared within two hours; vehicles remaining in school lots are subject to immediate towing.
