The first step is to contact the towing company directly to discuss the situation and provide any evidence supporting your claim. Often, disputes can be resolved amicably, especially if you have parked your vehicle near public locations like Glenduan Reserve, just 205 meters away, where parking regulations may have been unclear or misinterpreted.
If you remain unsatisfied with the towing company's response, you can escalate the matter to Nelson City Council or the Disputes Tribunal for further action. Claims for compensation can be pursued if your vehicle was towed without proper justification or if signage was inadequate. Document everything: take photos of the parking area, note any missing or faded no-parking signs, and gather witness statements from anyone present. Understanding the rules for parking enforcement can significantly bolster your case when navigating the complexities of local regulations. Keep all receipts and correspondence with the towing company as evidence.
